What are the learning goals of the wiki project you created?
The learning goals of my project is for students in an exercise science major to get an understanding of the history behind the exercise science major so that they have a better feeling for what the major and professionals in this field are trying to promote. I think that researching relevant topics that are a huge part of exercise science is a great way to learn about the major and what it teaches us.
How will this project help students achieve the learning goals?
This project will help students achieve their learning goals becasue they have to create their own exercise program based on the research they conducted. Hopefully they will learn the most from going through the program personally created. I feel that having to go through a program will have them see what really needs to be a part of a good program and what doesn’t need to be, based on what is the most effective and beneficial aspects of exercise. Also, they may learn how exercise will help relieve some of the stresses faced in school.
How you will measure student achievement of learning goals?
I will be able to measure the achievement of the students learning goals by reading the journals they post online that should give me some insight into how they are understanding the topics researched. The students should be applying the information they find to their own exercise experiences.
What did you learn about creating a wiki project, and what are the opportunities and challenges of creating such a project?
By creating a wiki project I learned that there are many opportunities in technology for teachers that will help in the classroom. The outlets are limitless really and more teachers should use these technologies in the classroom. The wiki scratchpad is easy to use, it’s user friendly, and it is good for students to learn to use as well. Challenges in creating this project that I faced were creating the internal links that led the students to the pages I wanted them to edit.
